Iguazu waterfalls, a wonder of the world at the border between Brazil and Argentina

It is not very common to see 3 countries from one point. We were at one of these places, the border between Argentina, Brazil, and Paraguay. It is demarcated by the Iguassu and Parana rivers.

We are here to visit one of the natural wonders of the world, the Iguazu waterfalls. Despite the crowd and the selfies sticks, I can say, it is one of the most beautiful places I have seen in my life. Nature is powerful and you can completely feel it here.

 

The Iguazu park where we can find the waterfalls is home to numerous species. It is clearly a magnificent area for research. The Instituto de Biologia Subtropical based in Puerto Iguazu has 6 different teams. They work in ethnobiology, ecosystems, plants, limnology (the study of inland waters) mammals, and spiders.

In this institute, the team of the Professor Norma Inés Hilgert drives several studies about Ethnobiology. In this region particularly, the relations between humans and the environment are complex. Mostly with so many communities living not far from the parc and impacted by the touristic activities. For example, studies involve the European immigrants, the Paraguayan immigrants, and the Guaraníes. At the light of the work of investigation, sometimes the fragile equilibrium between tradition, economy, nature protection seems impossible, but the Iguazu park itself shows the opposite. Despite the touristic pressure, the fragile environment is well preserved.
